NYSC: Shun crime, drug abuse and vices, among corps members
This is contained in a statement issued by Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations.
The cam is against the backdrop of the arrest of Arnold Meniru, a corps member, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ((NDLEA), over alleged importation of 4kg of drugged candies.
The scheme condemned the act, calling on corps members to be good ambassadors.
“The management of the NYSC is aware of the reported arrest by the NDLEA of a corps member, Arnold Meniru, for alleged importation of four kilograms of drugged candies from the UK.
“The scheme wishes to reiterate its unequivocal stand against any form of crime by any individual, including corps members.
“Recognising the dangers and negative effects of drugs, particularly on the youth, the NYSC over the years, has collaborated with the NDLEA to sensitise and counsel corps members and the public against substances’ abuse.
“Equally, sensitisation on the dangers of illicit drugs is one of the major lectures package for the orientation exercise.
”There is an existing NYSC and the NDLEA Community Development Service (CDS), group whose mandate is to organise public campaigns against use of illicit substances to curb drug abuse.
”The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has always utilised all opportunities to counsel corps members on the dangers and implications of engaging in crimes, including drug abuse.
”The scheme will not relent in continually admonishing corps members to be good ambassadors of their families, desist from drug trafficking and any other act that can tarnish the names of their families, the NYSC and the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that operatives of the NDLEA, had on Aug. 28, arrested Meniru, when a consignment of drugs was intercepted at the warehouse of a transport company. (NAN)

EFCC arrests 16 internet fraudsters in Lagos
Some of the suspects are Habeeb Adebayo, Marcus Wisdom, Caleb Ezekiel, Akinduro Henry, Osarobo Osasere, and Oyelami Olatunji.
Others are Pelumi Glory, Ehibor Joseph, Emmanuel Timileyin, Jefta Akpan, Okirhie Rukewe, Oxford Robbinson, Onyeka Odika, Uzoma Gideon, Adebayo Oluwatobi, and Isreal Ugochukwu.
A statement on Monday by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed that the suspects were rounded up on January 21 at the Ziroc Residence Hotel, Lekki, by operatives who had been tracking their activities.
“Upon interrogation, they all confessed to engaging in different forms of computer-related fraud, including romance and love scam.
A further analysis of their mobile devices and computers also confirmed their involvement in Internet fraud,” the statement added.
The EFCC said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court, adding that investigations had been concluded.
According to the EFCC, Eden collected the sum from one Inime Umanah in July 2017, under the pretext of helping him to invest in forex.
The complainant was said to have agreed to the deal with a profit-sharing formula of 80 to 20 per cent for investor and trader, respectively.
However, the complainant never got the promised interest and efforts to get back the invested sum proved abortive.
Eden was arraigned on one count of obtaining by false pretences.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, the prosecuting counsel, Nwandu Ukoha, asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
Justice Riman adjourned the matter until January 28, 2021, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the EFCC.
