A Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Wednesday ordered the remand
of a businessman, Balarabe Habibu in prison over alleged defilement of a
nine-year-old boy.
Balarabe, 41, residing at Dullurawa Quarters in Kano, is being tried
for committing an unnatural offence, contrary to Section 284 of the
Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the
accused in prison, pending an advice from the Kano State Director of
Public Prosecutions.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale had told the court that one
Murtala Sa’idu of Zango Kaya Village in the Ungogo Local Government Area
of Kano, in the company of his ex-wife Aisha Khalid, reported the case
at the Jakara Police Division, Kano on July 6.
They reported to the police after they noticed their 9-year old son could not walk properly.
“On the same date, the complainants noticed their nine-year-old son was not walking normally.
“When they questioned him, the victim told his parents that the
accused lured him to different places to have carnal knowledge of him,’’
Lale said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibri in his ruling asked that the
suspect be remanded pending an advice from the Kano State Director of
Public Prosecutions.
He then adjourned the case until Sept. 20 for mention
